Organic “Mount Nan Nuo” Sheng Pu'er Cake (2011, Gushu)

The tea trees in Mount Nan Nuo are typically over 100 years old. The mountain is part of the greater Xishuangbanna region and is home to an ancient arbor tea forest. The terroir of Mount Nan Nuo is unique due to its high elevation, steep terrain, and misty climate. The tea trees in this region grow on steep slopes and rocky terrain, which allows them to develop a deep root system and absorb minerals from the soil, contributing to the unique taste of the tea.

The history of tea cultivation in Mount Nan Nuo dates back to the Ming Dynasty. During this time, the region was known as the "Tea Horse Road," a trade route that connected Yunnan to Tibet and other parts of China. Tea was an essential commodity for the trade, and Puerh tea was highly prized for its medicinal properties. As tea production and trade grew in importance, tea gardens and plantations were established in the region, with tea cultivation becoming a way of life for the local people.
